I surveyed the number of words in the English language. More than several sources said the count was over a million. A couple hundred thousand of those you won’t find in a dictionary. Regardless of the actual tally most people use a few thousand words at best. That’s less than 1%, wow!
So let’s do three tests. Write down every word you can think of to describe a persons emotions. Now take that list and circle the ones that you use often. A lot less huh? Now take those circled words and cross our all the positive words.
Most people, even those that consider themselves to be optimists, just got a big shock because the remaining words were not what anyone would consider positive. They are like the red and yellow warning lights on a car dashboard. In forthcoming blogs we will discuss emotional messengers. For now, start adding a broader range of words to describe your emotions.
