A belief has the power of certainty behind it. Without the element of certainty a belief would just be a hypothesis, a mere idea or supposition. We all can get certainty about some idea from a past experience. Like if I hold my hand above a flame I will get burned. Your brain will remember that pain. So with that certainty how was I able to firewalk?
Well it’s simple, first off I walked on coals. It was done at night so that the coals would glow red through a thin layer of ash and ash is a form of insulation. Now the coals are made of pure carbon by the time they have burnt down, and that’s a very lightweight material. In fact carbon/carbon composites are used as a thermal protection system for Hypersonics because they are lightweight, don’t have a lot of heat sink capacity, and are poor conductors of heat – it forms a char layer (like charcoal). Next I walked through the coals rather quickly so any heat that was being conducted from the coals to my feet did not have a lot of time to heat my feet. So the combination of the insulating ash, the short dwell time, and the poor thermal conductivity allow for firewalking. All one has to do is to get certain that they can perform the stunt. Helpful is to focus on another thought prior to the walk like “cool ice” and repeatedly recite that out loud while you do the brisk walk. Focus on a single idea is used in meditation and hypnosis to generate a trance state. You are in a trance state while driving past your exit on the freeway because you were thinking about something else.
The point of this intersting blog is that if you become certain that you can achieve something and don’t not deviate from that belief, then you are very likely to achieve it.
