Some clients I have had walked around with a “Cloak of Doom” draped over their psyche. Always expecting “the other shoe to drop”. Always anticipating and even expecting a negative outcome or failure. Sometimes the feeling of anxiety or trepidation can literally immobilize the person from taking action, the feeling is that powerful. These feelings (as opposed to facts) were always associated with transposing some past occurrence, projecting some disempowering belief, into the future. The great fear they are feeling had a firm lock on their thoughts, biochemistry, and their identity. As a pro coach I start with disrupting the patterns of behavior and replacing them with empowering patterns. At an appropriate time I work towards helping the client regain their identity.
