We all have circles that we live, move and breathe in. Examples are family, friends, work, business, worship, clubs, hobbies, gyms, and more. Some of these circles we may not live, or move, or breathe so easily in. Some of these circles can be described by words like toxic, destructive, disempowering. Some feel that they are trapped in these. Recently, due to the pandemic, many healthy circles were broken by lock downs. Some circles were fortified and made stronger.
The key point I would like to make about circles of relationships is that they can have a lot of influence over our self-identity. Some of us move from circle to circle changing our identity to adapt as we go, just as a chameleon will change its colors to blend into the surrounding environment. For these persons knowing exactly who they are can be difficult with the constant shifting of character and values. Some of us are very steadfast with personalities that do not deviate. This can be ok depending on the situation. An example where it is not is the person who cannot turn off the authoritarian behavior of work when he comes home to the family.
So in the context of my recent blog on RE-Identity, one will want to be cognizant of the identities of the persons in their circles of influence. There may be beliefs, opinions, values, or even convictions that are in direct conflict with whom you are working to be. You may eventually decide that it is time to be rid of some circles and replace them with others more aligned to your objectives.
So my direction for you today is to identify those circles you must break out of and another list of circles you must fortify. A final list would be circles that you should expand. Go back to the example circles listed in the second sentence and take action. Nothing happens without action. Set a date, make it happen.
