Anxiety? Regret? You are probably saying these are definitely not my favorite things DrBill.
Of course they aren’t because your brain is trained to avoid pain. Let’s break it down and show you a new spin, shall we?
Anxiety results from thinking about the Phantom Future. Regret comes from reliving the pain of decisions made in the past. Now go back a few blogs at DrBillabq.com and reread about the Phantom Future and decision making.
The message I want you to see and to hear is that being anxious and having regrets are thinks (yes thinks not things) to be grabbed as OPPORTUNITIES!
Watch a little old fashioned television with commercials. The marketing psychologists are geniuses. They can twist your feelings and cause you to buy a product. Their goal is to manipulate you into seeing value and buy the product.
And so it is with anxious and regretful thinking, it’s a subtle manipulation to take your focus away from what is if value and buy a terrible product. The key word is thinking, as in thoughts. So let me give you a few better thoughts to practice regularly to retrain that brain.
Everything is exactly the way it is supposed to be right now. If it weren’t then it would be different. This is called acceptance, that everything is in perfect order even if it makes no sense to you (to your thoughts and thinking).
The next one is that we think we are in the “results and outcomes department”, but we are not. We are actually in the “actions” department.
Ever seen someone you have labeled a “free spirit”? I love that phrase, it is so literal. It is someone who does things without fear and without fear of regrets. For myself I have found that when I take the action and leave the results to God that amazing things happen. Every time I find myself struggling with another person or place or institution (thing) I remind myself of these things and let those thoughts of fear and regret evaporate.
