Sometimes life and events can throw a real maelstrom at you. I’ll be honest, I had another adjective in mind. It’s times like that where one naturally asks why is this happening to me? What have I done to deserve this? Those are terrible and disempowering questions but the do have answers: the first is it is not happening to you, it is happening for you, and the second is probably nothing. The way you feel in response to circumstances and events has everything to do with the meaning you assign to them. You can get into self pity in an instant with a simple “why me?”
Guess what? You can change the frame of reference. Instead of taking the perspective of life is like falling out of the womb and crawling across hostile territory and into your grave you could look at life as a multilevel game, like an Escape Room where instead of panicking you use team resources to uncover clues to decipher an exit strategy and move onto the next level. Games are fun, games are challenging, games are competitive, and they all have strategies for a win. Use a new metaphor like life is a game to assign a better meaning.
