Yesterday was doing what I call Dr. Feel Good. Let’s do this with a friend. Close your eyes, do some relaxing deep breathing in and out, and have a friend read the instructions…. remember just one time where you were on top of the world, maybe your wedding, or a fantastic beach vacation, or hitting your first home run, or graduation day, just one day, and when you have it nod your head and smile, really focus on it, see the things you saw, hear the things you heard, breath in the smells, even taste the tastes. Now take a finger and rub a knuckle on your other hand while you are going through that time in slow motion. Every sound, every color, ever smell or taste, now rub your Knuckle faster and notice how the feeling gets better, slow the speed and notice how the feeling goes away, very good. All right let’s bring it back by rubbing faster, now double the speed, now ten times the speed NOW OPEN YOUR EYES. Yeah. You can train that feeling to come back anytime you rub your knuckle by practicing this little hack over and over. I did this with my mom during her last week before she died. I would rub her knuckle while she listened to her favorite Italian Opera singers and having her describe her favorite trips around the world. Then I could comfort her instantly.
Pick a different feeling like creativity and a DIFFERENT body part to program and REMEMBER that feeling. You see anywhere in your body you have nerves and can “remember” things.
