A good friend said I was a dreamer. So I asked myself what is a dreamer? The definition I found was this:
-
a person who dreams or is dreaming.
-
a person who is unpractical or idealistic.
-
they spend a lot of time thinking about and planning for things that they would like to happen but which are improbable or impractical.
I had a moment where I thought I would be offended by this comment, but then I decided not to assign that meaning to the statement.
I am a dreamer, a Big Dreamer, I am very idealistic. I see no value at all in being pessimistic, and if I were to be a realist well then I would never stretch or grow. I have blogged about the idealist before. They see things as being better than the data would indicate and for that reason will persevere long after the realist or pessimist have given up.
There have been many who have tried to take my dreams away, and there certainly will be more. I was once told by a supervisor that I would not be able to get a PhD. I did it in 3 years while working full time and brought in my own research funding. I am not going to let anyone rob me of my dreams, nor should you let anyone rob you of yours. Dreams do come true. Never underestimate the power that is within you right now.
