So many people walking around unhappy because that is the way they want it, well they get it (paraphrased Cool Hand Luke, great movie). Take the test, fill in the blank for yourself “I will be happy when ________________”. You see many of us anchor our happiness to a condition, an achievement, a result, a behavior etc. And that anchor is what is holding us down, it is always tied to the future, a future that will come “someday”. “Someday” is almost always followed by another word, “never”. So what are we to do? I like the little ditty “I don’t achieve to be happy, I happily achieve”. Another habit I practice is instantaneous appreciation for any thought, action or result that I can grow from or something dangerous avoided. And a third is finding three things to be grateful for everyday.
I started Goodman Technologies and my coaching vertical after discovering my son needed heart surgery and after being laid off, both within a 30 day span. If I had said I will start when _________ then you would not have read this nor the many posts over the last several years. A lot more people would be unhappy. I decided that I was going to do it no matter what, and that failure was not an option. You see fear is one of those things that will make us stay unhappy.
Coaching works, what’s holding you back?
