You have said or heard someone say that “ I have mixed emotions about that”. Let’s take that phrase and restate it in the context of our brain and the avoidance of pain versus pursuit of pleasure. Let’s now say “I have mixed associations”. What does that mean?
It is simply this: it is associating the achievement of your goal or objective with both a painful and pleasurable outcome. This is a mixed association. The painful side of the mixed association robs us of all the joy and success we could have. It holds us back from moving forward as far as we could go. It is like taking two steps forward and one step back.
A practical example… how many of you driving down the freeway look at a lady or a fellow driving an expensive car and think poorly of that person because they may be wealthy? Maybe a feeling of envy or even hatred? You would like to be wealthy and have what they have, but you have painted a label of painful association on that outcome. Look for this kind of setup in all the goals you did: personal, financial, business, physical, relationships, spiritual, health, etc and take away the mixed association s. Example, I want to lose weight but I hate going to the gym.
