Recall we only decide for 2 reasons ever: 1) avoidance of pain or 2) pursuit of pleasure. Beliefs about something help us to get to a decision quicker. Beliefs can provide us relief when we are in pain or fear.
On the other hand are convictions which are unwavering beliefs. You cannot convince a person to change a conviction, they will resist all information that is contrary to the conviction.
When would right now be a good time to examine beliefs and convictions? Take COVID19. There are all kinds of beliefs and convictions about it. It does follow the 6-degree separation rule which is what “social separation” is about. Without fuel, that is, other people or surfaces to contaminate, the virus will burn out in short manner as is being shown in other parts of the world right now. Don’t like or understand fancy words or math? It just means hunker down or stay put and isolated from contact with others. Like a forest fire without trees this will burn out and pass.
Because one does not know they are infected during the incubation period, but still can infect others (5 others for everyone that has it according to the 6-degree math) you don’t know who in an enclosure or large group environment like a stadium, school, conference, house of worship, sporting event etc has it. The virus can survive on surfaces for up to 3 days. So we also don’t know who has touched a surface and contaminated it before us and you cannot clean and disinfect every surface every time perfectly. Therefore this is just a numbers game.
Hunker down, use phone, SKYPE, zoom. The situation requires team cooperation. A temporary lifestyle change will be far less painful than a multiple week recovery, provided there are enough medical resources to allow a recovery at all. Be thoughtful of others, and pray.
No evil shall befall you,
Nor shall any plague
come near your dwelling
Psalm 91:10
