Been meaning to write this one for a while. It is a challenging topic on which whole books have been written because the feelings of loss will span the entire spectrum of emotions and responses, each unique to the individual. Most importantly there is no right or wrong response.
The feelings of loss can be spawned by the loss of a friend, colleague, acquaintance, or family member. They come in response to the conclusion of an association or relationship, such as separation, divorce, or finally death itself. The feelings associated with the occurrence range from extremes like hatred and bitterness, a sense of relief, numbness and the lack of feeling, shock, or even a sense of closure and peace. There is also regret, remorse, helplessness, frustration, or pain. How could I leave out fear abs anger? Loneliness is another big one. Deep sadness another. With time and effort I can come up with so many more. A key point is that many of these feelings can impact our mental, emotional, physical and spiritual responses (our MEPS) in numerous unexpected and unpredictable ways, sometimes even unimaginable. This is quite natural. Even with many occurrences these feelings are not an easy thing.
The number of people that I personally know, and myself included, that have experience the feelings of loss over the years and in the past 2 alone would be a rather large and astonishing number. Sometimes the feelings of loss will completely abate in a short time, sometimes in a very long time, sometimes incompletely, and sometimes never at all. Again there is no right or wrong, everyone is different, but here’s a thought that is worth sharing.
The past is history, we cannot change it. The past has no power over us unless we choose to constantly go back and relive it. If we feel the pain of the past a thing to do is to recognize that it’s as an emotional messenger instructing us to make a change. Since
And if your feeling of loss is sadness and grief it is ok. Just do what you have to do each day and do it with your sadness and grief. You would have done it anyway. Most will come to a personal decision on their own about what is appropriate for grief, but if you have been struggling know that you are NEVER alone in your experience, and that’s countless others have broken the chains. You must simply ask for help.
I realize I have only barely scratched the surface on this one so I apologize abs leave you with a blessing for hope, freedom, happiness, and peace. God Bless.
