A Magic Number? Not really. It is more like an average number. The average person has 70,000 thoughts a day, most of which are in direct response to what we see, what we hear, what we feel, what we smell and what we taste in the present moment. We also like to do the “Back to the Future” routine where we zoom into the future and imagine things that will happen, or hop into the time machine and continually re-visit and attempt to relive the past. Just think about all the news you read or hear in a day on TV, the radio, or social media. How about those work conversations or perhaps family drama?you know how some of those change your body chemistry in an unpleasant way in an instant. Now guess what? Just like the U.S. Postal Service our brains will attempt to process, store or discard every one of those thoughts of the day- and we do this while we are sleeping, or at least attempting too. I am sure there are few out there that will disagree with me when I say that most of our thoughts of the day are useless, disempowering or even down right toxic to us. And guess what? The very next day we will replay almost 50,000 of those thoughts over again.
Ha, ha the cynical side of me just imagined that many of you just said “oh thanks for the freaking good news DrBill”. No I didn’t just read your mind – that was an easy response to predict, because you see most of us are conditioned to think like that. If you are like me you can read the next statement and say “yes, me too”. What’s the statement? “My mind needs a good spa treatment”.
So here’s your Free Spa Treatment and Brain Massage that you can do yourself or have a good companion or friend guide you through it. I want you to read this description, then find a comfy space, preferably in the dark or shade, you can be lying down or sitting in a comfortable position, you can have soft pleasant music or sounds like waves or a babbling brook, or just no noise at all – put in ear buds with no music. Once you are situated you will do some relaxation breathing by inhaling through your nose and blowing the breath out through you mouth. Notice the air feels cooler when you breathe in through your nose. Do this about 17 times. Next, while continuing to breathe in this way, as you exhale imagine that you are blowing the toxins, stress and pain from your body. Feel this physically leaving your body – good. Now imagine floating out of your body and seeing your self releasing these toxins from your body – they look like a dark foggy cloud coming out of every pore, but you also notice that your body looks brighter and lighter as you shed this fog. Good! Now float back into your brighter, lighter body and mind, and get really relaxed like in your favorite recliner at the movie theater. Now on the big screen look up and see yourself in a Spa at your favorite place, maybe on a beach, or in the forest, or perhaps on top of a mountain. Maybe it is a spa you have been to like Ojo Caliente or a hot springs. See the beauty and colors of the location. Hear the sounds – maybe calm flute music or birds singing, or waves crashing and then the water receding. Smell the air, it could be pine trees, or salt water of the ocean, or maybe sage or eucalyptus scents. Now feel the gentle breeze, like the touch of a soft feather on your face. Great! Now see yourself stepping into the hot tub, steam rising from its surface and the quiet percolation of the bubbling water. Sit down up to your neck and feel the warmth and heat soak into your body – say “mmmmmm” as you enjoy the delicious warmth and comfort, getting even more relaxed right now. Excellent! Now view yourself in the tub with your eyes closed and feel the warmth of the sun on your face. Take a deep breath and hold it. Imagine the suns energy coming into your body through the top of your head and healing your thoughts, your feelings, healing every cell in your body as it circulates all the way down to your toes and then back up to your mouth and forcefully blow the breath and all the toxins out your mouth. Take another breathe and hold it and do this again, circulating the cleansing energy, again expelling the negativity. Do this a third time and then relax further into the tub. Now recall a time in your life when you were Grateful and Happy. See that day clearly, where you were, who you were with, the sights and sounds the temperature the smells or tastes. Now on the movie screen see that earlier happy self filled with gratitude, floating to you sitting in the hot tub, and then like a clean bright spirit entering your body – feel the tingling throughout your body as this happens, feel refreshed, full of energy, perhaps a feeling of being excited or an anticipation of something very good about to happen, because it is. And when you have that feeling know that you can keep it as long as you want just simply by remembering that time. Now open your eyes and notice how you feel.
Now here’s your challenge. Do this process every day for a week and notice the change.
Have an AWESOME day unless you made other plans….
