After a number of years of coaching I had decided to learn some new techniques. So I took the Integrated Wellness Academy certificate program in Los Angeles and it was there that I first connected what MEPS were and why they were so important to keep balanced.
MEPS is an acronym. The M is for Mental, the E is for Emotional, the P is for Physical, and the S is for Spiritual. And the great fact is that when one or more of your MEPS is out of balance then so will be all the others. The unbalance can manifest in many ways, Depression, Overeating, Destructive Relationships, Stress and Anxiety, Victim mentality, Aggression and Hatred, Disempowered thinking and behavior, Substance Abuse, and many other addictions and maladies.
The key for us coaches is to hear what you struggle with by asking lots of questions, create an action plan with you, and then assist you with a number of powerful techniques to help you to rebalance yourself. Every person is different but I will tell you this, I have yet to find a person whom could not be restored to balance rapidly after restoring the spiritual component.
Now here is the great connection I made in my studies. Now I may lose half the readers here, but that would be their loss because I am about to share something amazing and astonishing that sadly most people may never know.
I was studying the Bible with a group of men. One of them says to me “you know Jesus only ever gave straight answers to questions 3 times in the scriptures”. You see he liked to tell stories or parables, what many of us coaches would call metaphors or analogies today. They say he did that so that any person educated or not could understand and remember. Then he told us one of the questions and answers. Jesus was asked what are the two greatest of the 10 commandments? We all answered, mine was thou shalt not kill, physically (or by character assassination, which is a subtle form of murder – like a lot of news – oops I just broke it). The answer that Jesus gave was “thou shall love thy Father with all thy mind, all thy heart, all thy strength and all thy soul”. And there they were, plain as day, the MEPS! Mind is Mental, Heart is Emotional, Strength is Physical, and Soul is Spiritual! So if I love with all my MEPS I Am Doing the number 1 thing I was told to do and my reward is balance, peace, happiness, security, self esteem, and many other benefits. It gave me goose bumps just to write it and then again when I proof read it.
The number two answer to the question was Love thy neighbor as thy love thy self. Forgiving yourself is a key to forgiving others and ridding yourself of hatred, first hatred of self, then hatred of others. You see where this is going?
If you like this post please pass it on.
And oh, I leave the discovery of the 3rd straight answer to the interested reader.
